How to lose 10lbs in photos instantly | Indianapolis Boudoir
So, one of the biggest reasons I get for women not booking their own session are, “My body isn’t ready.” Whether this is because you want to lose 20+lbs, lose a few, or tone up, it’s always, “My body isn’t ready”. Can I ask, what your body needs to be ready for, exactly? Is it required to be a certain size in order to look good? In order to be photographed? Is it required to be a certain shape, or proportion, for a boudoir session??
Look, I get it! But, from one woman on a journey of self love to another, there’s going to be no right time to do a boudoir shoot when you have that mindset. There will always be weight to lose, things to tone, tattoos to get or finish, and hair that needs a change. I am ALL for achieving your body goals, I am. (And sidecar: your goals should be to get healthy, not to a certain size or weight. More on that later). How do you propose you love yourself, when you hit this magic number or size, if you can not love yourself now? A boudoir shoot is about loving your now. Regardless of if the shoot is with me or someone else, you deserve to love yourself where you are, at this moment in your life.
I don’t do this for a living because I’m just decent at it! I will help coach you on what to wear, and through ever pose and every position to ensure you look your absolute best. An awesome outfit, some great lighting, and me there to help every step of the way is all you need, girl! We got this, together!
To demonstrate these awesome abilities, I’ll use myself as a guinea pig. Do you remember this picture of myself, I posted a couple days ago? If not, it was on my IG story, an if you’re not watching my IG stories, or following me, then you should probably go do that…. I’ll wait. Find me under @Nine23Boudoir
Ok, I assume you’re following me on IG now. So back to this photo. It’s cute right? Looks like I’m just sitting comfy in a chair, editing away. Well, yes, and no. I was sitting in a comfy chair, and I was editing that day. But this picture was very much, posed. So this dress, is VERY soft and comfortable, and I wore legging underneath it, because it’s freezing out, and I’m cold. But the outfit, is a step above pjs, in terms of comfort. It’s dress-up pjs! Because I was just chilling around the house in dress-up pjs all day, you know I was not trying to put a bra on either.
So, in order to keep my fluffy size 12 body from looking like a busted can of biscuits, as seen here:
I had to change my pose and angle. I set up more. I arched my back, pushing my boobs out, over my stomach. I pushed my chin out to get rid of the extra 2 chins I got going on, and I pushed my my hip out a liiiiiitle bit more. All to get this:
Hot damn, right? I went from busted can of biscuits, to sexy hourglass, in a matter of seconds. I’m still fluffy. I still have dress-up pjs on. I still have saggy boobs with no bra. I’m still ME. Are you getting the idea here? I tell everyone that I do a session at every size. Sometimes I do 2 in a year, because I will yoyo from a size 16 to a size 10 in the same year. And some of you are like, “Oh it must be nice to have the luxury of being photographed once or twice a year.” Well girl, I don’t get it for free. Are you kidding me? Ain’t no photographers lining up to offer to photograph this fat, fuzzy haired, awkward mom for free. Oh, I’m sorry, except for the new budding photographers here in Indiana, that want to “photograph the girl behind Nine 23” ONLY for the notoriety. But Momma, ain’t your coat-tail to ride, so NEXT! So no baby girl, I pay for it, the same as you. It’s important. It’s not about a gift for my husband. Truthfully I don’t even think of my husband in planning my shoot. He may enjoy the fringe benefits, but it ain’t for him. It’s crucial to accepting myself at every weight. It’s crucial to accepting myself in each stage of life. It’s crucial in my journey to self love. Simply put, it’s important to me, so I budget for it, I save for it, and I find a way to make it happen.
A tip before you start.
EveryBODY is different. Practice some poses in the mirror to see what works best for your body type. Now 7 quick tips to losing 10lbs in camera!
1.) Turn to the side. Depending on your body type anywhere from 30-90 degrees to the side can make a big difference. Being photographed straight on, captures you at your widest angle. This works if you’ve got a tiny frame and want to add weight, but for everyone else, try different degrees of turning.
2.) Bring your arms up, or use them to hide you. Having an arm up in your hair, holding something, or on your hip, can show off your curves, and also elongate your body. Or having your elbow in front of you, gives the impression your body stops where your arm is, and thus slims you. Notice in my before + after pictures, in the after, one arm is up (holding the phone) and elongating me, while the other elbow is dug into my side, and hiding my side boob fat. haha
3.) Arch your body. This one is a big deal. The camera (even your phone’s lenses) will make what is closest to the lens appear bigger, and what is further away appear smaller. For most of us, we want our chests to appear bigger, while our waist and hips appear smaller. So arching, and bringing your chest closer to the camera, and hips further away, really makes a huge difference.
4.) Push your chin out (and down). We all want to avoid the dreaded double (or in my case, triple) chin! So push your chin out a bit, to elongate your neck, and get rid of that double chin. Even if you’re “looking down”. Look out and down, and push your chin out, and then down, to avoid the double chin.
5.) Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. So this one feels weird AF. I know it does, but, it also helps to avoid a double chin. It tightens the muscles under your chin, to make it appear slimmer. You’re already trying it aren’t you? Bonus, sometimes doing this, makes you want to create a sexy pout with your lips too. 😉
6.) Wear well fitting clothes. Look it should be common sense that if you’re wearing baggy and boxy clothing, you’ll look bigger. You can’t see your shape in a big box! But you don’t want to wear clothing that is too tight, and will show every roll and bulge, either. Something that hugs the curves, juuuuust right, is going to bring all this posing together.
7.) Lift your camera. No, you don’t have to be above your head! So don’t worry if you’re in a group photo, and the photographer isn’t standing on a step ladder to take the picture. haha But DO look for the taller person to take the group photo!! So taking a photo, just above eye level, is pretty sufficient to getting a slimmer look, without anyone noticing you’re even taking it at a downward angle. Girl, 90% of my selfies are like this!! It’s also why I will have my husband take pictures. He’s 6’3 I’m 5’3.. yeah.. built in slimming right there! This works before again, whatever is closest to your lens is going to appear bigger, while, whatever is further away, appears smaller. Of course, going higher above your head, does provide more slimming, just watch out, it doesn’t make you look like a bobble head. haha
