Speaking of tease, something else that’s in the guide, is a section on accessories and props. And if you’re a bride, well I feel like there a 5 Must Have Accessories to incorporate into your boudoir session!
#1) Your Engagement Ring
This should be obvious! It’s a given you want to show off that rock, because it’s as unique as you are! If you’re doing this session as a present for your soon-to-be-spouse, who picked out, or maybe even designed that ring, just for you, you’ll want to show it off everywhere… including your boudoir session! In any session, if my client has a ring on that finger, I’m photographing it! E-ring, wedding ring, promise ring… it has a lot of meaning, and probably a great story behind it, as unique as the ring itself. Fun Fact: My husband designed my engagement ring, and I have chosen to wear it for the last 13.5 years, instead of my actual wedding ring. It’s a 1ct heart shaped, pink sapphire, with 3 little diamonds on each side of the sapphire. Why do I wear my engagement ring instead of my wedding ring? Because we were gifted our wedding rings. They were my husband’s parent’s first set of rings, but my MIL had her engagement ring, and the wedding band soldered together. I can not wear all three, so while I’m honored to have rings passed down from a marriage that is going 40 years strong now, I choose to honor my husband by wearing the ring that he personally designed and had made for me.
#2) Your Veil
This sounds obvious too, right? But I’m so sad to see a lot of women every year, who don’t do this because they worry it’s cliche. Well I’ve been photographing boudoir for going on 9 years, and I never get tired of bringing in a veil! And you know what? So what if people think it’s cliche! Are they in charge of YOUR session?? No. So do what you want. If you want the veil, bring the veil girl! I think it also adds a little something to the album if you’re giving it to your honey on wedding day.
#3.) Your Wedding Day/Night Lingerie
Light bulb!! How freaking epic is it going to be, when you give your bride or groom their album during the wedding day, and then they see you in that same lingerie on wedding night?!!? You know that time, when you’re exchanging gifts via bridesmaids and groomsmen, before the ceremony? That’s the perfect time to gift that album! Pro Tip: Let your wedding photographer know you’ll be doing this, so they can clear everyone out of the room, except for themselves and your honey, and then have them capture your fiance’s reaction on film!
See if your florist can make up a small mock bouquet, maybe go to the craft store and make one yourself from artificial flowers, or find one on Amazon that looks similar to the one you’ll have on wedding day. Not only does it make for beautiful images, it also stirs of memories of your wedding day, and the feelings along with it, when you look at your boudoir album. It brings you back to the excitement of this time.
Your wedding day shoes. Paired with some items you’ll be wearing on wedding day, your shoes are another accessory that will make your session really unique to you, and bring back all of the great memories of wedding day, when you look back at your images. No matter if they’re heels, ballet flats, sneakers, or cowgirl boots.. I’ve photographed them all!
